The Discovery of Cofee
Posted By CEO John Andresen

According to an Ethiopian legend coffee was discovered by a goat herder named Kaldi, who found his goats full of energy after eating the fruit of the coffee plant. Kaldi tried the fruit for himself and had a similar reaction.

So the next time you are at Starbucks, say "Thank You Goats!"

Start With Why

I learned something last week, in the NewChip Accelerator Masterclass (, that every business owner should always be thinking about: Focus first on why your business exists.

Simon Sinek, author of the book, Start with Why, wrote, "People don't buy WHAT you do, they buy WHY you do it." Brands that focus on describing WHAT and HOW do so at the expense of selling stuff that fails to connect with potential customers at a personal level. Without an internal belief in why the company does what it does, brands are left with nothing substantial to offer other than some lifeless product or service. This notion pushes companies to compete over external features, bells and whistles, and superficial distractions that convert the brand into nothing more than an undifferentiated waning commodity.

Which I certainly will, whenever I see someone in the same situation, in the future.

Today we started the NewChip Accelerator Master class which has the goal of helping startups get the training and opportunities they need to bring in $250M in funding. It's an 8 week class. It looks to be very intensive and very helpful. We will do our best to share helpful information along the way. Wish us luck!

Expression of the day: "It's better to be the head of a chicken, then the tail of a bull." Because, you know what a bull's tail gets.

Helpful Google Tip: Use a minus sign to eliminate results containing certain words. Sometimes you want to eliminate results with certain words. For example a search of "mustang -car -movie -airplane" will show you results for the term Mustang that has nothing to do with cars, movies, or airplanes.
